YLS Spring Clean-up

On Saturday, April 24, the morning air near 36th Street and Kino Parkway rang with weeds whackers and excitable chatter. More than a dozen volunteers from United Way's Young Leaders Society, along with area youth from the Kino Youth Advisory Board, descended into the neighborhood near Quincie Douglas Library to pull weeds, trim trees and remove debris for local elderly residents.

The team hit nine houses, helping residents with intensive yard work and giving area youth an opportunity to help lead a volunteer effort in their community.  “We want to give these youth the support they need to get involved,” said United Way’s Kristina King. “Along with service projects, YLS also offers leadership opportunities to these youth.  We are looking to make a positive difference in their lives and in their community.”

The United Way Young Leaders Society is an organization of passionate young professionals who are actively seeking ways to Connect, Serve & Lead to make a positive and lasting impact throughout our community.
