Food Stamps Make America Stronger
Did you know that there are over 44,000 people in Pima County who are eligible for food stamps, but not receiving them? In September 2006, United Way of Tucson received a $75,000 grant from the USDA to create a Food Stamp Outreach Training Program, in an effort to reduce this number.
The goal of the Food Stamp Outreach Training Program is to inform eligible seniors and working families in Pima County about the benefits of food stamps, and assist them in overcoming common barriers in applying for and receiving food stamps.
We conduct trainings for case managers, staff and volunteers from various community organizations on food stamp eligibility and the application process; they leave the training equipped to help vast populations of low-income seniors and families throughout Pima County.
