

Below are biographies of our distinguished speakers that appeared live at the Sunset Show Leadership Live Event on March 6, 2007:
Carmen Bermúdez
Founder & CEO
Mission Management & Trust Co.
Ms. Carmen Bermúdez is the Founder and CEO of Mission
Management & Trust Co. Carmen has demonstrated outstanding
leadership and accomplishments in a variety of settings.
Ms. Bermúdez is actively involved in the Tucson community and is
committed to organizations such as the YWCA of Tucson, founder
and sponsor for the Bright Futures Program, Executive Women’s
Council of Southern Arizona, United Way of Tucson and Southern
Arizona and the Southern Arizona Women’s Fund.
Her impressive involvement in civic activities includes service on
the board of directors for the National Law Center for Inter-American
Free Trade. She is on the Advisory Board of the Department of
Management and Policy for the Eller College of Management
of the University of Arizona. She is a member of the Southern
Arizona Leadership Council and the New America Alliance based in
Washington, D.C. She formerly served on the board of the United
States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the board of advisors of the
U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce and member of the Rotary Club
of Tucson. For many years, she served on the board of advisors for
the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Bermúdez clearly loves her work, but giving back to the
community has given her the greatest satisfaction. Today, she
works to empower women and minorities through scholarships, job
creations and career advancements and community involvement.
In 2005, Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named her the
Hispanic Business Woman of the Year. In 2004, Hispanic Magazine
Presented Carmen with the US-Latin American Friendship Award. In
2003, Hispanic Magazine named Ms. Bermúdez among the “100 Top
Latinas.” In 2000, Avon Products Inc. chose Carmen as one of four
Women of Enterprise and was named the Entrepreneur of the Year
by Latina Magazine. Also, in April of the same year, The Star Group
recognized her as one of The Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the
World. Other awards include being named a Mujer, 2000 Woman
of Today and she was honored by Working Woman Magazine as the
regional recipient of their 1998 Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for
Social Responsibility.
Jim Click, Jr.
Co-Owner
Jim Click Automotive Team
Mr. Jim Click is the Co-Owner of Jim Click Automotive Team including
Ford, Lincoln-Mercury, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Mazda, Nissan, and
Hyundai, with several dealerships in Phoenix, Arizona and Orange
County, California.
Mr. Click is no doubt one of Tucson’s most visible and generous
philanthropists. Some of his volunteerism includes: Junior
Achievement, Board of Directors, President and recipient of the
prestigious Gold Lay Leadership award; Boys & Girls Clubs of
Tucson, Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Capital Fund
Drive, raising over $1.2 million to build the Holmes Tuttle Boys &
Girls Club, and the Roy Drachman Boys & Girls Club; Salpointe
Catholic High School, Chairman, of the 1988 Capital Campaign;
and the University of Arizona Foundation, Board Member. In 1992,
he was Tucson’s Man of the Year and is a member of the Tucson
Conquistadores. A devoted citizen, in 1999 he led a successful
effort to maintain an adequate water supply for Tucson’s future.
As Chairman of the Capital Campaign for Primavera Builders,
Mr. Click raised the money to build a new training center for the
homeless. Mr. Click was honored for his outstanding philanthropic
work for a wide variety of community projects and organizations
by the Southern Arizona Chapter of Association of Fundraising
professionals.
Mr. Click was one of the fi rst Tucson employers to offer workstations
for people with developmental disabilities through the Beacon
Foundation. Today, Mr. Click employs more than 60 individuals
with disabilities at his dealerships. In 1999 he was the recipient
of President Bill Clinton’s President’s Award from the Committee
of Employment of People with Disabilities for his leadership in the
development of LINKAGES, a non-profi t organization that matches
individuals with disabilities with employment opportunities.
Gifts from the Click family have funded the University of Arizona’s
Adaptive Athletic Program, the Jim Click Hall of Champions at U of
A McKale Center, and the Click Family Athletic Center at Landmark
College in Vermont.
Donald Diamond
Chairman
Diamond Ventures, Inc.
Mr. Donald R. Diamond is chairman of Diamond Ventures, Inc. His
business interests include a variety of real estate investments and
development projects in the Southwestern United States and Mexico.
For four decades, Mr. Diamond has played a major role in
supporting Tucson’s community, national and international health,
education and charitable service organizations.
He spearheaded the building of the current Jewish Community
Center in Tucson and serves as a member of the National Board of
Advisors for the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Business and
Public Administration; and has been very involved with the United
Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. Mr. Diamond served as the
United Way campaign chairman in 1973, and chaired the United
Way’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society for major gift donors from 1993
to 2000. In addition, in 2000 Mr. Diamond and Diamond Ventures
supported the United Way through a one million dollar gift --- the
largest, single donation in the organization’s history at that time.
Through Diamond Ventures, Mr. Diamond was instrumental in
extending a one million dollar line of credit to Habitat for Humanity
in Tucson to increase Habitat’s operating capital. Some of the
other community organizations that have received Mr. Diamond’s
support, through either his time or his fi nancial contributions,
include: The University of Arizona; The University of Arizona’s Steele
Memorial Children’s Research Center; Tucson Medical Center; St.
Mary’s Hospital; Angel Charity for Children; Boys & Girls Clubs of
Arizona; The Southern Arizona Community Food Bank; and Chicanos
por la Causa.
Mr. Diamond currently serves on the board of directors of the Rincon
Institute; the Sunstone Cancer Support Foundation of Southern
Arizona and is past president (1974-1975 and 1975-1976) and life
member of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. Mr. Diamond
also serves as a member of the Desert Caucus; American Israel
Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC); Southern Arizona Leadership
Council and its P-12 Education Task Force; University of Arizona
Wildcat Club; and is a life member of the Tucson Airport Authority.
Mr. Humberto Lopez
President & Co-Founder
HSL Properties, Inc.
Mr. Humberto Lopez is president and co-founder of HSL Properties Inc.,
which primarily deals in the purchase, investment and development of
real estate throughout Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Georgia
and Colorado.
Mr. Lopez has chaired and served on a number of non-profi t boards
including United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, Metropolitan YMCA,
Catholic Community Services, Downtown Development Corporation,
88 Crime, Tucson Airport Authority, Diocese of Tucson Advisory Council,
Tucson Festival Society, and Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau.
His current professional and civic memberships include Tucson – 30, VIP
Breakfast Club and World Presidents Organization. Mr. Lopez has been
affi liated with a number of other professional and civic organizations
including Downtown Rotary Club of Tucson, American Institute of
Certifi ed Public Accountants, Greater Area Tucson Foundation, Pima
County Real Estate Research Council and Young Presidents Organization.
He is also currently appointed by the University of Arizona as Chairman
of the Board of Advisors Sarver Heart Center, University of Arizona;
Board of Advisors College of Business and Public Administration;
President’s Club and Chairman of the University of Arizona Foundation
Board of Directors
Past appointments by the Mayor, City Council or Governor include
Downtown Redevelopment Committee, Downtown Advisory Committee,
Arizona Offi ce of Tourism, Urban Lands Advisory Committee and Arizona
Small Business Conference.
Mr. Lopez has been recognized countless times for his dedication and
commitment to Southern Arizona and its many non-profi ts. These
honors include Father of the Year recognition by the Father’s Day
Council sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; City of Hope
Man of the Year; Society of Fellows of the National Jewish Hospital
Research Center; Outstanding Tucson Citizen Award from Mayor L.C.
Murphy on December 11, 1980; Hispanic Business’ 100 Most Infl uential
Hispanics; Volunteer Fund Raiser of 1998; Beta Alpha Psi, Accounting
Fraternity, Outstanding Alumni Award; Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Businessman of the Year.
