The Supporting Work Project
The Supporting Work Project is an initiative designed to help working individuals become more financially stable through the use of work supports. Work supports are those resources, public and otherwise, that can help supplement a family’s finances and includes resources such as food stamps, childcare assistance, housing and utility assistance, healthcare, and Earned Income Tax Credits, to name a few.
By supporting working families to develop more stability in their family economics, it is the intent of the program that these families will develop more stability overall, which will contribute to their stability as employees in their place of work.
The Supporting Work Project is designed to be provided through the employer to foster these employer-based outcomes and also to eliminate some of the barriers that working individuals encounter when pursuing such resources such as missing time from work, transportation issues, lack of support, etc.
Employer Partners: The Supporting Work Project is designed as a workplace-based program. The overarching goal of the program is to positively impact the lives of working individuals and their families by linking them with community resources and, in doing so, foster a more stable workforce for the employer. In order for this process to take place, partnerships must first be established with progressive-minded employers to allow their employees exposure and access to the program so that they may engage in and partake of the benefits offered by it.
To date, we have been very fortunate to have forged partnerships with 22 community employers in the industries of healthcare, childcare, and hospitality and we recognize and applaud their efforts to support their employees and their families through community programs such as the Supporting Work Project.
Resource Manual: The Supporting Work Project is designed to link individuals and families with community resources that can help supplement their income and lead them on the path towards financial stability. One of the tools the program has developed in order to achieve this is a comprehensive resource manual containing information about the numerous resources existing in the community that can help to meet or supplement a family’s basic needs. Additionally, the resource manual contains income-eligibility guidelines to self-determine one’s eligibility status for the different programs as well as listings of addresses, contact phone numbers, and hours of operation for the different resource venues.
