VOLUNTEER

United Way’s goal since its founding has been to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. United Way is the community catalyst that creates new partnerships with government, businesses, and community agencies, making the whole greater than the sum of its parts. The stronger we make our community, the stronger we become.
No one person can do it alone, but if we LIVE UNITED, we can all contribute to significant, lasting change in Pima County and southern Arizona.
Looking for ways to give back? Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The VITA program serves low- to moderate-income individuals and families by preparing their tax returns free of charge and ensuring they are receiving all the tax credits they are entitled to, which helps them keep more of their earnings. We also connect taxpayers to other financial services.
Why Volunteer?
The VITA program is the largest tax preparation service in Arizona, and we need volunteers to be able to offer, and expand, this important service. Volunteering for VITA has many benefits: Making a positive impact in your community, gaining new skills, networking with members of the community, and adding a service component to your resume. No experience or specials skills are required. FREE training is provided.
We Have the Right Job for You!
While tax preparers are the cornerstone of our program, many other people are needed to make a VITA site successful. With many different volunteer positions to choose from, we are sure you will find one that fits your interests. Positions include:
• Tax Preparer – prepares taxes for individuals and families using IRS software.
• Greeter/Intake Specialist – greets taxpayers as they enter the site and ensures they have all necessary documentation.
• Interpreter – provides free interpreter services at VITA Sites to our many taxpayers for whom English is the second language.
• CA$H Specialist – connects taxpayers with services on a case-by-case basis, including bank accounts, savings bonds, student financial aid applications, financial education, workforce development services, benefit screenings, and referrals.

The Economic Security Initiative of Pima County (ESIP)
EISP is seeking volunteers to help older adults improve their individual financial stability.
When you join our team as an Economic Resource Specialist (ERS), you will be helping older adults connect to local resources, resources that can make a difference in their lives.
No experience necessary, training provided. The ideal volunteer must have basic computer and data entry skills and be available Mon - Fri during normal business hours approximately 8 hrs/week.
Your willingness to volunteer as an Economic Resource Specialist (ERS) will help make a difference in our community by providing seniors a way to connect to valuable resources that help support financial stability.
Tucson is one of only eight cities participating in a pilot program funded by support from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. Through this funding, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) has organized an initiative to collaboratively develop and demonstrate innovative, person-centered, community-based programs designed to effectively address the needs of economically disadvantaged older adults from a holistic perspective.
As an ERS you will be given access to tools and resources to look at all the individual client’s needs and determine the right mix of benefits and services, thus creating a personalized economic action plan. This plan will then become the roadmap that can help a client get back on their feet and become more financially stable.
