60% of children in Pima County are not reaching this crucial benchmark. We are working to close this gap through Read On Tucson, an approach that implements proven strategies to increase the percentage of third graders reading at grade level in our community.
Last year, nearly 600 influential business and community leaders attended this important event and made an investment that impacted 1,412 children from 12 elementary schools, who received 16,994 books to read during the summer to help prevent summer learning loss.
Returning to the Business Breakfast this year, is the Literacy Champion Award which will be presented to an early childhood educator teaching students in preschool through third grade. The award recognizes the educator's achievements in literacy with students.
