YLS Party Bike Through Winterhaven

Details: This Holiday season, take a party bike with the Young Leaders Society through the most festive neighborhood in town: Winterhaven! On Friday, December 14th, we will meet at Shooters at 7:30pm for appetizers and board the bike at 8:15pm. The bike ride will last about 45 minutes. Festive attire is encouraged! This event has a very limited number of tickets. Reserve your spot today! Tickets are $25. All proceeds will benefit Youth on the Rise (youth ages 16-24 who are on a path to re-engaging with their education and career). The Young Leaders Society is United Way's affinity group for professionals who invest in the community and are actively seeking ways to Connect, Serve & Lead to make a positive and lasting impact.


VITA Tax Preparer Training

When: Saturday, January 05, 2019 at 08:30 AM

Where: Pima Community College Computer Lab in Tucson, AZ

Details: First Time Tax Preparer training is mandatory for all new volunteer Tax Preparers. Many returning volunteers opt to take this training as well. The training is designed to prepare new volunteers for the IRS certification exam by providing a basis of knowledge of tax law and the tax preparation software used in the VITA program. In between sessions participants have access to the software to practice on their own through online resources. We encourage all new volunteers to attend the Open Lab Sessions for support while taking the IRS Certification exam. This is a four-part course. Participants should attend all four sessions to obtain all the information and be best-prepared for the certification exam. The full course schedule is detailed below. Note: The specific buildings and room locations are still being finalized with our partners at Pima Community College. We'll be in touch with updates as this process progresses. Details: First Time Tax Preparer training is mandatory for all new volunteer Tax Preparers. Many returning volunteers opt to take this training as well. Details: Participants in this training will be provided an overview of the VITA program and the role of the Greeter and Interview Specialists positions. You will learn about the services available at VITA sites, the Valet VITA process, which allows our clients to submit their documents digitally for preparation off-site to reduce wait times, and everything you need to know to conduct a thorough interview with clients wishing to use that service. There will be a brief break about halfway through the training. Those interested in serving exclusively as greeters will be dismissed, though everyone is encouraged to attend the full training in case they might be interested in also serving as an interview specialist.

Returning VITA Volunteer Refresher

Details: We encourage all returning volunteers to attend this session. The refresher training is a review of the TaxSlayer software and provides updates on how the latest round of tax reform will affect clients' returns and site operations, as well as new tools and resources. If you'd like to get a head start on examining the impact of last year's tax legislation on individual and family returns, review IRS Publication 5307.

Participants must attend all sessions to obtain all the information and be best-prepared for the certification exam. The full course schedule is detailed below.
